We are thrilled to report that our kitchen is basically finished and fully functioning! There are a few finishing details like trim around windows & doors and touch up painting, but nothing that interferes with its functionality. It's WONDERFUL! This comes almost exactly a year after we visited Goss Memorial Church in Ohio and Dan Shrack and David Harbeson caught a vision for coming to help us with this massive need. It's been nearly two years since the first time Frank yanked down a water damaged wall in the kitchen at 10 PM one night, declaring "It has begun!" We have prayed about this for years, always feeling too overwhelmed by the task to imagine how it would get done. And now here we are on the other side. We've already had to open up both leaves of our table twice to fit all the folks present at our dinner table --- what a privilege and a joy!
I'll share the rest of our updates in the form of praises & prayer requests …
Please keep up the prayers as we explore the options for Selah's schooling this fall. Last night was the first of several charter school lotteries, and sometime next week we will find out if she will be extended an opportunity to attend there. It's our current top choice. We've been really disappointed in and hesitant about sending her to the other neighborhood charter school that we once felt really hopeful about. Pray for wisdom and favor -- that we will have decent options and will make the best choice.
There has been a lot of change on our block --- families from the houses on both sides of us have moved away in the past few weeks. Melinda & Juney and their family moved to another part of the city, and we still get to see them every week or so. Priscilla and her girls left for Florida last week. Things ended on a rough note with her, and I fear that with the distance she is choosing to harbor ill feelings towards us instead of being aware of God's pursuit of her heart through our care for her and her girls. Please pray for God's truth and mercy to pursue both of these families with fervor, and that they would respond and follow Him.
It's been a busy birth month --- one baby born already, two that could come any day now. Pray for these families to get off to a great start and to be impacted by the love of their magnificent creator through their experience of pregnancy and birth.
There is still a lot of work that needs done on our house to finish up the bathroom … you know, like walls, a ceiling …. The hope though is that Frank can pace himself with that work and get the chance to spend some more time up at The Last Stop and meeting 1-1 with guys. He's really sacrificed to tackle these projects in our house, even when it's been staying up all night painting when he would have the kids on his own the whole next morning while I teach. Please pray for refreshment and renewal for him, and for great opportunities to arise for him to use his unique gifting to disciple guys struggling with addiction.
We are already thinking about the summer! We will have two AIM family trips, will be welcoming a team from Goss Memorial Church and may also have a college group coming to work with us for a week. We will need to figure in some travel and doula baby due dates around that. Now that our youngest is 15 months, it feels like the world is opening up for and we can manage so many more opportunities. Please pray that we will have wisdom to know what to take on and what to pass on, and how to care well for our family in the midst of so opportunities.
That you all so much for you love and prayers, for the ways that you encourage us and support us and keep us "like a well-watered garden" here in what is often a "sun-scorched land.'
blessings and love,
Frank, Elizabeth, Selah, Callum and Clementine
